15 Home Office Finds to Help Your Business Run Smoothly

Operating a small business from home comes with its own set of challenges… to say the least.

Especially in the beginning, operations can be a little rocky as you figure out how to do #allthethings smoothly and efficiently.

One thing that drastically helped me when it came to working out those kinks was to have the right tools in place; many of them were super cost-efficient, and ALL of them made a huge difference in my workflow and productivity.

Whether your small business is completely online (hello, fellow service-based businesses and freelancers!) or your business is product-based and you’re shipping directly from your home, I rounded a few of my favorite essentials that’ll help your business run smoothly so you have the time and space to focus on what matters most.

Postal Scale

I bought my first postal scale back when I started a product business over six years ago… but it has continued to be a highly used tool in my business! Even when I’m not shipping product directly, I do love shipping customer care packages, surprise gifts and more, and a postal scale makes it so easy to get the right weight on your package so you can simply drop it off or schedule a pickup. No more waiting in line at the post office.

Thermal Label Printer

A little on the pricey end, but worth every penny here: a thermal label printer. Because it’s thermal, it doesn’t use ink — all you need to do is plug it in, insert the labels, and you’re off! I use this thing HEAVILY when I shipped physical products (like, hundreds and thousands of labels), but still use it to this day for everyday shipping purposes. Another easy way to skip the line at the post office and save so much time. Oh, and psst: here are the labels I use with my printer.

Pegboard Wall Organizer

When it comes to organization in your office and space is limited — go vertical. A pegboard wall organizer is the perfect way to organize your office supplies in a beautiful, custom fashion while maintaining that precious desktop space.

Graph Notebooks

If you’re a paper lover like me, invest in a notebook system you LOVE. Personally, I really like using graph paper notebooks (they work great for both writing and visuals), and I love the consistency of the same notebook in various colors for easy organization. This set is beautiful, minimal, and perfect for jotting down quick notes and ideas throughout the day.

Rotating Supplies Organizer

The easiest way to avoid clutter in your office or workspace is to ensure everything has a home. This rotating art supply organizer is the perfect way to beautifully and efficiently organize your everyday supplies like pens, highlighters, scissors, and more. Plus, it comes in several stunning colors.

Adjustable Wireless Phone Charging Dock

Ah, multi-purpose is one of my favorite features in an office addition — and this charger is SO smartly designed. It charges your phone, tablet, and AirPods all in one sleek little station, and the adjustable stand means you can use it for recording your next video or Instagram story hands-free! Available in white or black to match your workspace aesthetic.

Compact Filing Cabinet

Filing cabinets aren’t traditionally a “fun” addition to your office… but trust me when I say this little beauty is a looker and SO functional. It’s large enough to hold all of your paper files, locks for security, and slides perfectly under the standard desk height. I also love that it’s on wheels for easy maneuvering and doubles as a little extra desktop space in a pinch.

Monitor Riser with Dry Erase Board

I’ve had this monitor riser in my own space for about six months now, and it’s safe to say, I’m OBSESSED. Not only does it raise my monitor to the perfect ergonomic height, but it features a sleek, non-distracting design and (my favorite part) a PULL-OUT DRY ERASE BOARD that can be easily tucked away when not in use! I use this board for quick phone numbers or notes throughout the day, then erase and slide it back in at the end of the day.

Wireless Mouse

I learned the value of a backup mouse the hard way; when my own mouse died and needed to be recharged, I had no other way to use my computer. Ack! This $12 investment is worth having on hand for emergencies or on the go with with your laptop. Plus, it comes in a few beautiful colors so you can choose the one that matches your aesthetic most.

Printer Stand with Storage

Here’s the deal with beautiful, intentional storage solutions in your office — you can never have too much! I ADORE this particular stand for several reasons: it rolls to where you need it, has ample room for your printer, includes a built-in drawer for hiding clutter, and features a vertical design, meaning you don’t even need much floor space to accommodate it! Obsessed.

Acrylic File Organizers

For those very important documents or books or planners that you need to access often, this acrylic file organizer is the perfect solution. Because it’s transparent, it’ll look less heavy on your desk than other file organizers with an opaque design, and the versatility of its use is endless.

Portable Laptop Stand

Find yourself working on a laptop often or taking your work on the go? This laptop stand is beautiful, adjustable, and folds up so you can take it anywhere. Plus, the design allows warm air to flow easily from the bottom of your laptop so there’s no risk of overheating. I love that it keeps my laptop in an ergonomic position and is super lightweight yet durable!

Apple AirPods

When it comes to phone calls, jam sessions, or just getting in the zone with your work, wireless headphones are a must. AirPods are a super lightweight, portable way to stay connected and focused without the attached wires.

Phone Tripod + Selfie Stick

I’m ashamed to say, I used to poke fun at selfie sticks… but they’re actually SO USEFUL in a small business! I use both the tripod function and selfie stick function to record videos, take photos, and more. Plus, the portability of this one is a no brainer. The more lightweight and minimal my everyday tools can be, the better!

Ring Light

If you spend any of your time in your small business taking your own photos, you need this ring light. I use it for almost every single photo shoot to help balance the light in my space or supplement in lieu of natural light. It comes in a kit with a bag for storage, but I generally leave it out most of the time since it gets so much use in my office.
